Bhubaneswar: The Additional District Sessions Judge Court, Kujanga in Jagatsinghpur district on Thursday awarded life imprisonment to one Sachikant Dalei after convicting him of murder.
The Court also slapped a fine of Rs 10,000 on Dalei. In default to pay the fine Dalei shall have to undergo rigorous imprisonment for one year more.
According to the case records, on one evening in 2016, Sachikant was standing on a deserted dark road to loot anyone passing by that road.
At this moment one Ganeswar Swain was passing through this road on a bike. Sachikant asked Ganeswar for a lift. As Ganeswar did not stop and was trying to flee the spot, Sachikant jumped onto the moving bike to pillion ride.
While pillion riding Sachikant slit Ganeswar’s throat with a sharp instrument, as a result of which the latter fell from the bike and died.
Later Sachikant was arrested by the police.
