Bhubaneswar: In a shocking incident, a man allegedly beat a youth to death after finding him ‘sexually assaulting’ his daughter at Akhuapal village under Dadaraghati outpost limits of Parjang police station in Dhenkanal district late on Saturday night.
The accused, identified as Rupa Pingua of Mohanpashi village under Akhuapada panchayat, later surrendered before police after committing the crime.
The deceased has been identified as Karunakar Behera, a resident of No 1 Colony under the same panchayat.
According to reports, Karunakar had been working as a JCB helper in Mohanpashi village for the past three days. Rupa allegedly caught Karunakar sexually assaulting his daughter inside the house. Enraged by the act, he attacked the youth with a sharp weapon, killing him on the spot.
However, villagers claimed that the boy and the girl were in a relationship. Rupa reportedly lost his temper after spotting them in a compromising position and assaulted Karunakar in a fit of rage. After the murder, he allegedly dumped the body near a canal in the village before surrendering at the Dadaraghati police outpost.
Upon receiving information, the deceased’s father Kashinath Behera and other relatives reached the spot and alleged that Karunakar was brutally murdered. They demanded strict action against the accused.
Police have recovered the body and sent it for post-mortem. An investigation has been launched and the accused is being interrogated for further details.
