Puri: An unidentified man was allegedly bludgeoned to death with stones near a pond at the Jagannath Ballav premises under Town Police Station limits in Puri early Wednesday morning.
The identity of the deceased and the exact motive behind the murder are yet to be ascertained. Police have launched an investigation into the incident.
According to reports, the man had reportedly been roaming around the area for the past few days. His body was found near a pond with severe injuries, following which police were informed.
The deceased is suspected to have been mentally ill. Another youth, also suspected to be mentally ill, was reportedly seen roaming in the same area.
On receiving the information, police reached the spot and began an investigation. Police suspect that the two may have been involved in a physical altercation before the incident and that one of them may have attacked the other with stones during the altercation, resulting in the man’s death.
However, the exact sequence of events leading to the death is yet to be established.
Further investigation is underway.
