Bhubaneswar: Airfield police have detained one Suraj Dash of Aurobindo Nagar locality of the city over alleged dowry death of his wife Priyanka Mishra.
Priyanka (26) of Kendrapara was married to Suraj two and a half years back.
According to Priyanka’s family members she was allegedly tortured by her in-laws for getting Rs 5 lakh as dowry ever since her marriage to Suraj. She was allegedly subjected to mental and physical torture and had to abort her pregnancy. She had often informed her father Bidyadhar Mishra about the torture inflicted on her by her in-laws for dowry.
On Monday evening, Priyanka’s mother-in-law informed the former’s maternal uncle Ranjan Tripathy that his neice (Priyanka) had committed suicide.
On hearing the news, Priyanka’s family members immediately rushed to the her Aurobinda Nagar residence here. Upon reaching at Aurobinda Nagar they saw Priyanka’s body lying on the floor with a ligature mark on her neck.
They immediately informed the police over phone about the incident. They alleged before the police that Priyanka has been murdered.
Airfield police on reaching the spot seized the body and sent it for conduct of autopsy.
Police have registered a case under 302, 498A and other sections of the IPC.
“In the Priyanka Mishra death case, her marriage was of two years. Their marital relation was not good.According to her husband she attempted to commit suicide following which they brought her to the hospital where she was received dead. But on the basis of her family members we have registered a case under 302, 498A and other sections of the IPC. The body has been sent for autopsy after inquest. Her family has alleged that she was killed by her husband and his family members,” informed Addl. DCP Prakash Chandra Pal on Tuesday.
