Berhampur: One Radhakant Behera of San Badangi village under Sorada police limits in Odisha’s Ganjam district was detained by the police on Sunday for allegedly poisoning his wife Rinki Behera to death.
According to an FIR lodged by the deceased’s family at Sorada police station, Radhakant, and Rinki had an arranged marriage some five years ago. The relationship between the two had soured and they often quarreled over various issues. On Saturday evening, Rinki’s condition started deteriorating due to poisoning and she was rushed to a Sorda Medical Center.
Radhakant informed his in-laws about the condition of his wife and his brother Sishirkant Behera reached the health center. Early on Sunday morning, Rinki breathed her last during treatment.
While Radhakant said that Rinki had consumed poison after a quarrel, the victim’s family members allege that she was murdered and lodged a complaint against Radhakant at the Sorda police station.
On being informed, police arrived at the health center and sent Rinki’s body for post-morten. The police have also detained Radhakant for interrogation. Police said that the exact reason that led to the woman’s death could only be ascertained after they receive the post-mortem report.
