Baripada: A court in Mayurbhanj has sentenced a 57-year-old man to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 10,000 for raping a minor girl. In case of default, Raut Purti will face an additional six months of imprisonment.
The verdict was pronounced by Judge Santosh Kumar Nayak in the Mayurbhanj Additional District and Sessions Judge and Special Fast Track POCSO Court.
According to reports, Purti raped the minor girl when she went to collect firewood near her house on November 8, 2022. He threatened her not to disclose the incident to anyone, but when he raped her again, the victim informed her family. A complaint was filed with Sarat police station, leading to Purti’s arrest and subsequent trial.
The court’s decision came after considering witness statements, medical reports, and police investigation findings. Additionally, the District Legal Services Authority was directed to provide Rs 3 lakh compensation to the victim minor. This case highlights the court’s commitment to delivering justice in cases of sexual violence against minors
