Bhubaneswar: A special POCSO court in Jajpur has sentenced a man to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment for raping his minor daughter in the Binjharpur area of Jajpur district in 2024. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 on the accused, with an additional six months of imprisonment if the fine remains unpaid.
The heinous crime occurred when the accused took advantage of his wife’s absence from home and sexually assaulted his daughter. Following a complaint lodged at the Binjharpur police station, the police promptly arrested the perpetrator.
The case was brought before the POCSO court, which conducted a thorough trial. After examining the statements of 18 witnesses and other evidence, the court found the accused guilty of the grave offence.
In addition to the prison term and fine, the court directed the Legal Services Authority to provide Rs 5 lakh as compensation to the victim to support her rehabilitation.
