Sundargarh: A court sentenced a man to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 25,000 for raping a minor girl three years ago.
Sundargarh Special POCSO Court also ordered Telesafar Topno to undergo five months more imprisonment if he fails to pay the penalty amount.
The court directed the District Legal Service Authority to pay Rs 7 lakh as compensation to the rape survivor.
The court pronounced the verdict based on the medical report and the statements of several witnesses.
The incident took place in January 2020. Tapno had sexually assaulted the minor girl while she was alone in her home.
The girl was staying with her grandmother after the death of her parents. When her grandmother had gone out for work, Topno committed the crime.
