Kendujhar: The Kendujhar District POCSO Court has sentenced a man to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment for sexually assaulting a minor girl and directed that ₹10 lakh be paid to the victim as compensatory assistance.
The convict, Sunia Champia, is a resident of the Badabil police station area.
According to case records, the incident took place in 2022 when the minor girl had accompanied her family to a feast. Champia allegedly took her forcibly to a nearby forest and sexually assaulted her.
Following a complaint lodged by the victim’s family, Badabil police registered a case and initiated an investigation.
After examining the evidence and statements of 13 witnesses, the court convicted the accused and pronounced the sentence. It also directed the District Legal Services Authority to pay ₹10 lakh as compensatory assistance to the victim.
