Baripada: The Baripada Special POCSO Court on Thursday sentenced Karte Singh Banara to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) for raping a minor girl and imposed a fine of ₹20,000 on him.
The court ruled that the convict would undergo an additional three months of imprisonment if he failed to pay the fine.
According to the case details, the minor girl was staying at her maternal uncle’s house and pursuing her studies in the jurisdiction of Sharat police station. The accused allegedly raped her when she was alone at home.
After the girl narrated the incident to her maternal uncle, a complaint was lodged at Sharat police station. Police investigated the case and filed a chargesheet against the accused.
Following the trial, the court found Banara guilty and pronounced the sentence. Special Public Prosecutor Ashwani Kumar Mohanta conducted the case on behalf of the prosecution.
