Koraput: The Fast-Track Special Court Jeypore today awarded 20 years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) to a man for abducting and raping a minor girl.
Adhoc Additional Sessions Judge Jeypore Pradip Kumar Sasmal sentenced one Santosh alias Satyanaryan Majhi of Kenduguda under Kotpad police limits to 20 years RI for abducting and raping a minor girl.
The judge sentenced Santosh on two counts-17 years RI under section 6 of the POCSO Act and imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 and 3 yrs RI under section 366 IPC and imposed a fine of Rs 5,000.
On failure to pay the fine amount imposed by the court, the convict has to undergo nine months RI.
The court also convicted co-accused in the case Somnath alias Kandha Challan, the accomplice of prime accused Santosh and awarded him 3 years RI and imposed a fine of Rs 5,000. The court ruled that on failure to pay the fine, Somanath has to undergo 3 months RI.
The court ordered the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) to pay Rs 2 lakh ex-gratia to the victim.
The court further ordered to pay the fine recovered from the convicts to the victim.
