Phulbani: The Phulbani Additional District Sessions Judge and POCSO Court on Wednesday sentenced one Manoj Dehury to 5 years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) and slapped a fine of Rs 8,000 after convicting him for raping a minor girl.
The court ruled that in default of paying the fine, Dehury has to undergo RI for six months more.
The court has further ordered the District Legal Services Authority, Kandhamal to pay Rs 2 lakh as compensation to the victim.
According to details of the case, Manoj Dehury, a resident of Khajuripada police limits in the year 2020 had raped a 10-year-old girl while she was alone in her house.
Family members of the victim on coming to know about the incident lodged an FIR with the Khajuripada police. Following the FIR Manoj Dehury was arrested by Khajuripada police.
