Bhubaneswar: The Additional District Sessions Court II, Rourkela on Monday sentenced a person to life imprisonment for killing an elderly couple suspecting them of practising sorcery.
The judge convicted Raju Panna, a resident of Brahmanitaranga in Rourkela, in a case registered in June 2015 and pronounced the verdict after hearing the statements of 10 witnesses.
According to the petition, Raju used to fall sick. He was of the impression that the elderly couple, who happened to be his neighbours, was practising witchcraft which led to his ailments.
Raju had also threatened the dire consequences for practising sorcery. On June 7, 2015, Raju had hacked the elderly couple with the help of a sharp weapon killing them on the spot.
