Baripada: A Special Fast Track POCSO Court in Mayurbhanj district has sentenced a 30-year-old man to life imprisonment for raping a minor girl.
The court, presided over by Judge Santosh Kumar Nayak, also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on the convict, Hemendra Nayak. In case of default, the convict will have to undergo an additional six months of imprisonment.
As per the case diary, the incident occurred on June 4, 2024, when the minor girl and her younger sister were going to a nearby market. The convict lured them with chocolates and convinced the victim’s younger sister to return home. Later, he took the victim to a nearby bus, where he committed the crime. The victim informed her family about the incident, and a case was registered at the Jasipur police station.
The court convicted the accused based on the testimony of witnesses, medical reports, and the police investigation. The judge also directed the District Legal Services Authority to provide Rs3 lakh as compensation to the victim.
The case was handled by public prosecutor Manaranjan Pattnaik.
