Paralakhemundi: In a significant judgment, an Additional District Judge’s court in Paralakhemundi has sentenced a man to rigorous life imprisonment for dowry-related torture, domestic violence, and the murder of his wife.
The convict, identified as R. Dhanunjay, was also fined ₹10,000.
According to case details, Dhanunjay had married the victim in 2018 and had been consistently harassing her for money from her parental home. He reportedly subjected her to frequent physical assault over dowry demands.
On November 12, 2019, Dhanunjay strangled his wife to death using a car clutch wire inside a garage. In an attempt to mislead investigators, he later tied a cloth around her neck, placed the body in front of the garage, and tried to pass off the incident as an accident.
Following the incident, police registered a case against the accused under charges of domestic violence, dowry-related torture, and murder.
The court delivered its verdict on Wednesday after examining testimonies of 17 witnesses, along with material evidence collected from the crime scene and the post-mortem report, all of which substantiated the prosecution’s case.
