Hacked To Death

Bhubaneswar: A man was allegedly hacked to death and another critically injured in a violent altercation suspected to have occurred in an inebriated state at Baghamari village under Biramaharajpur block of Subarnapur district late Friday night.

The deceased has been identified as Ajit Khandagiri (34), a resident of Baghamari village. The injured, Surjya (34) of Champamal village, is undergoing treatment at VIMSAR, Burla, after being shifted from the Birmaharajpur Sub-Divisional Hospital.

According to reports, the scuffle broke out around 10 pm near the Shiva temple in Mendamal village. While the exact motive remains unclear, preliminary reports suggest the clash may have been a fallout of a drunken brawl following Nuakhai celebrations.

On being informed, police reached the spot, recovered the body, and sent it for post-mortem. An investigation is underway.

Following the incident, tension gripped the area as angry locals staged a protest at the Birmaharajpur Sub-Divisional Hospital, demanding immediate arrest of the accused.
