Baripada (Mayurbhanj): A man allegedly beat his father to death with a stick following a dispute over money at Pathuri village under Bangriposi police station in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district on Saturday night.
According to reports, the deceased was a small farmer who had kept money aside for purchasing fertiliser for his agricultural field as the farming season is underway.
The accused, identified as Sumanth Dehuri, allegedly asked his father to give him the money. When his father refused, a heated argument reportedly broke out between the two.
The son allegedly attacked his father with a stick during the altercation, leaving him critically injured. He subsequently succumbed to his injuries, reports said.
On receiving information about the incident, personnel from Bangriposi police station reached the village on Sunday and initiated an investigation.
Police have detained Sumanth Dehuri and are questioning him in connection with the alleged killing.
Further investigation is underway to ascertain the exact circumstances leading to the incident.
