Man lives with wife's body

Bhubaneswar: A man continued to live with the dead body of his wife for three days after killing her following a family dispute at Tarini Nagar of Salia Sahi area under Matri Vihar police station in Bhubaneswar.

The incident came to light after the neighbours experienced a foul smell coming out of their house. Later, the accused husband in the case was arrested after he confessed to the crime before neighbours and police.

According to police, the deceased Rina Jena used to consume alcohol. On the fateful day, she was heavily drunk and engaged in an altercation with her husband. Irked, he beat her to death and kept the body inside the house.

Neighbors today informed the police after the accused confessed to the crime.

“We received information regarding a murder at Tarini Nagar in Salia Sahi that a man kept the body of his wife inside the house after killing her two days ago.  Today, their elder son reached the house and got to know about the murder from the neighbours after foul smell emanating from the house. He and local residents reported the matter to the police,” said Mrutyunjay Swain, Maitri Vihar police official.

A team of police rushed to the spot with a scientific team and launched an investigation. Prima facie, the murder seems to be the fallout of a family dispute, Swain added.

As per the statement of the deceased’s husband, his wife used to spend his earnings in consuming liquor. On the day of the incident, she had also drunk heavily which led to an altercation with her husband. Irked over the feud, he beat severely his wife to death, the official said.

A case has been registered and the investigation is underway, he added.
