Bhubaneswar: A court in Rairangpur of Mayurbhanj sentenced a man to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment for raping a married woman in Gorumahisani area in the same district in 2023.
The Rairangpur Additional Session Judge also imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 on the convict Mahendra Naik, with an additional one-year jail term if the fine is not paid.
According to the case details, on September 28, 2023, Mahendra Naik (46), son of Dibar Naik of Jarkani village, raped a married woman from Gorumhisani police station. He threatened to kill her if she reported the incident.
However, the woman filed a written complaint at Gorumahisani police station, leading to the registration of a case. Mahendra Naik was arrested, and the court convicted him based on the statements of 14 witnesses and the police report.
