Bhadrak: A couple was found dead at their residence in Nangamahala village under Bhadrak Puruna Bazaar police station limits on Thursday, with the husband allegedly stabbing his wife to death before dying by suicide, police said.
The deceased have been identified as Sk Mustafa Raja and his wife Sonu Bibi. According to preliminary information, the couple had been facing marital discord for several days. Family members had reportedly made repeated attempts to settle the dispute, but their efforts did not resolve the matter.
Police said that when no other family members were present at home on Thursday, Mustafa allegedly attacked Sonu with a sharp weapon. She died at the spot. He subsequently hanged himself in the same room, police said.
Neighbours, after coming to know about the incident, informed the Puruna Bazaar police. A police team reached the spot and initiated an investigation. The bodies were recovered and sent to Bhadrak District Headquarters Hospital for post-mortem examination.
Neighbours said Mustafa and Sonu had married for love and their relationship was reportedly cordial during the initial period of their marriage. The couple has two daughters, aged six years and one year.
While Mustafa was a resident of Bhadrak district, Sonu’s parental home is in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. Further investigation is underway to ascertain the exact circumstances leading to the deaths.
