Bhubaneswar: The recovery of an unidentified body inside the Mancheswar railway coach repair factory playground has raised fresh concerns over security in the state capital.
On Monday evening, locals discovered the body of a young man bearing multiple injury marks, with his face brutally mutilated.
Police said the deceased, estimated to be 25–30 years old and about 154 cm tall, was found dumped near a toilet cabin, covered with garbage.
Preliminary investigation suggests the death occurred four to five days ago, and police have registered a murder case.
To establish identity, police have launched a city-wide campaign by putting up flex posters in different areas and circulating details across the country.
Posters of the deceased have also been dispatched to all police stations nationwide. A ₹25,000 reward has been announced for anyone providing information about the man’s identity.
Recovered items include blue formal pants, a grey belt, black Woods shoes, an orange handkerchief, and a Traxion wristwatch. Authorities said if the body remains unidentified even after 96 hours, last rites will be conducted by the police.
The discovery has unsettled residents, who are questioning how a body could be dumped inside a factory playground in a “smart city” under high-security camera surveillance. Investigations are underway to trace the culprits and determine whether the victim was from Odisha or another state.
