Bhubaneswar: The director of the Ahmedabad Meteorological Department Manorama Mohanty has been appointed as the new director of the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), Bhubaneswar. She will succeed HR Biswas who was transferred to RMC, Kolkata.
With the new appointment, she was promoted to S grade.
A notification in this regard has been issued by the Ministry of Earth Science.
Mohanty joined the weather forecasting department after completing her post-graduation in Physics from Utkal University.
She played a significant role in the accurate prediction of various calamities especially tropical cyclones in Arabian Sea that impacted Gujarat. Her accurate prediction of the movement of the Extremely Severe Cyclonic Storm Tauktae that hit Gujarat coast in 2021 earned appreciation.
