Bhubaneswar: In a significant development, a Maoist cadre active in Jharkhand’s West Singhbhum district, surrendered before Rourkela police. Roya Kalandi alias Ganesh was involved in several Maoist activities, including the Banko stone quarry explosives loot and blast case.
Kalandi cited disillusionment with violence and Maoist ideology, along with internal pressure and threats to his life, as reasons for surrendering. He will receive benefits under Odisha Government’s Surrender & Rehabilitation Policy, including financial assistance, rehabilitation, skill development, healthcare, and ration support.
Rourkela Police appealed to other Maoist cadres to shun violence and join the mainstream, marking this surrender as a boost to peace efforts in the region.
