Phulbani: Security forces have located a Maoist camp during a combing operation in the Kotagarh police station area of Kandhamal district, officials said on Saturday.
The operation was carried out in the forested area near Gangerisa under Parigada panchayat, where Maoist presence had been suspected. During the search, security personnel recovered and safely defused four improvised explosive devices (IEDs), averting potential threats to both forces and civilians.
Sources said the operation is part of intensified anti-Maoist operations in the district, which has witnessed sporadic extremist movement in its dense forest belts.
Security personnel continue to carry out extensive search operations in the surrounding forest areas to trace any remaining cadres and to ensure the region is cleared of explosives and other threats.
Further details are awaited as the operation is still underway.
