Bhawanipatna: In a joint operation Special Operations Group (SOG) and District Voluntary Force (DVF) personnel have busted a Maoist camp in Labanagada forest under M Rampur police station area in Kalahandi district today.
Security personnel have recovered two IEDs, one booby trap, detonators, Maoist literature, a large number of umbrellas, solar plate, water jerry can, Maoist banners, torch lights, charger, bags, soap, polythene sheets, electric wire, medicines, contraceptive pills and other camping articles from the camp.
“Based on reliable input a team of SOG and DVF personnel launched an operation in M Rampur on Wednesday. Today at around 11.30 AM while the team was searching the area, CPI (Maoist) cadres fired at the team using LMG and other automatic weapons. Our team retaliated and fired using UBGL and AK-47. Though there have been no casualties the Maoists retracted from their camp due to heavy counter fire by our team,” informed Kalahandi SP Abhilash G addressing a presser here today.
The SP said that during a further search by the team a Maoist camp was busted leading to the recovery of two IEDs, one booby trap, detonators, Maoist literature, a large number of umbrellas, solar plate, water jerry can, Maoist banners, torch lights, charger, bags, soap, polythene sheets, electric wire, medicines, contraceptive pills and other camping articles.
He added that further operations have been intensified in the area and more teams of SOG have been pressed into operations to flush out the Maoists.
Police suspect presence of around 30 Maoist cadres in the area including senior Maoist cadres-Nikhil, Bunty, Dasru, and Mamata in the area.
