Malkangiri: Malkangiri police and BSF during an intensive search and area domination exercise in the bordering area of Odisha-Andhra unearthed a major Maoist dump in the forested area near Kusumput village under Jodambo police limits in Malkangiri district on Friday.
Security forces have recovered a huge cache of arms, explosives, IEDs, and other incriminating articles from the dump. It is suspected that these articles were intended for targeting civilians and security forces.
Security personnel have recovered 2 nos. of .303 rifle, 2 nos. of gas gun, 4 nos. of country made gun, 2 nos. of tiffin IED, 01 nos. HE grenade, 20 nos. detonator, 970 nos. gelatin sticks, 01 camera flash, 1 nos. printer, 1 nos. laptop battery, 01 nos. battery, 01 nos. solar panel, 07 mtrs electric wire, 10 mtrs cordex wire, 06 nos. of red cloth (measuring 1.5 mtr each), 01 nos. ammunition pouch, and several other utility articles.
“This is a major jolt to the subversive and anti-national design of Maoists in this area. We are suspecting that these explosives along with other articles belonging to the Maoist cadres of AOBSZ and they were intended to be used against innocent civilians and security forces to carry out their subversive, anti-national activities. In the wake of recovery, further combing and search operations are going on in this area,” said IG of Police (Operations) Amitabh Thakur briefing reporters here.
