Berhampur: In a shocking incident, the bodies of a married couple were found hanging from a tree near Alarigada village under Sadar police limits in Berhampur, on Thursday morning.
The deceased have been identified as Sumitra Sahu, wife of Santosh Sahu from Patapur village, and Rajendra Sahu, son of Simanchal Sahu from Radhadeipur village. Both the villages come under the jurisdiction of Patapura police station.
According to police, the couple had been missing since December 19, and a complaint had been filed at Patapur police station. Investigations revealed that the couple had developed a romantic relationship despite being married to other people and having three children each. Their families have filed missing complaints with Patapur police.
Police suspect that the couple’s families might have been involved in their murder, as honour killings are common in the region. However, police have started an investigation to confirm whether it is a pre-planned murder or suicide case.
