Bhubaneswar: Two Commandos of Odisha Police, Sudhir Kumar Tudu and Debasis Sethy were awarded Shaurya Chakra (Posthomously) by President Ram Nath Kovind at a ceremony at the Rashtrapat Bhavan in Delhi on Tuesday.
Tudu and Sethy had sacrificed their lives during an anti-Maoist operation in Odisha’s Kalahandi district on 9 September 2020. Five Maoists were eliminated in the anti-Maoist operation in which Tudu (28) and Sethy (27) had attained martyrdom.
President Kovind conferred one Kirti Chakra (Posthumous) and 14 Shaurya Chakras, including eight posthumous (including the two Odisha police commandos), to the personnel of the Armed Forces, Central Armed Police Forces and State/Union Territory Police during Defence Investiture Ceremony (Phase-2) today.
The Gallantry awards were given to the personnel for displaying conspicuous gallantry, indomitable courage and extreme devotion to duty. The President also conferred 13 Param Vishisht Seva Medals and 29 Ati Vishisht Seva Medals for distinguished service of an exceptional order.
