Bhubaneswar: Mortal remains of Assam Rifles jawan V Teja, who died in the line of duty in Nagaland, were consigned to flames with full military honours at Swargadwara in Siriguda, Rayagada today.
As per reports, the braveheart’s body had reached Rayagada late last night following which hundreds of locals, ex-servicemen and youths had gathered to pay their last respects and raised slogans hailing his sacrifice.
Earlier in the day, Collector Ashutosh Kulkarni and Superintendent of Police paid floral tributes to the martyred soldier. He was accorded a Guard of Honour before his final journey.
As per information, after completing formalities, Teja’s body was first flown to Guwahati and then taken to Hyderabad and Visakhapatnam. From Vizag, it was brought to Rayagada by ambulance.
A resident of Katur area in Rayagada town, Teja had joined the force in 2022. He had sustained gunshot injuries during operational duty in Nagaland and succumbed while undergoing treatment.
In a heart-wrenching coincidence, Wednesday was Teja’s 31st birthday. The jawan was also scheduled to get married in December this year.
