Berhampur: A shocking incident of alleged attempted murder has triggered panic in Solabhagapenth village under Jarada police limits in Ganjam district, where a 22-year-old woman was brutally attacked inside her home by unidentified assailants on Saturday evening.
The victim, identified as Sweeti, daughter of K. Kaira, sustained grievous injuries after being assaulted with sharp weapons.
According to sources, she suffered deep wounds on her neck, back, and other parts of the body, leaving her in a critical condition.
Sweeti was initially rushed to the Patrapur Community Health Centre by local villagers for first aid and was subsequently shifted to the MKCG Medical College & Hospital here for advanced treatment.
The incident occurred around 5 PM when Sweeti was alone at home. Her father had reportedly gone out to graze goats, while her mother was away in Chikiti. Sweeti had returned home shortly before the incident after attending a Mahamayi Puja at a house in Golasahi.
Taking advantage of her being alone, two unidentified youths with their faces covered allegedly entered the house and attacked her with sharp weapons in a brutal manner, leaving her severely injured and unconscious in a pool of blood.
Hearing her cries, locals rushed to the spot, rescued her, and arranged for immediate medical assistance.
The motive behind the attack remains unclear, and no arrests have been made so far.
When contacted, Jarada Police Station IIC Minakshi Dalabehera said that a detailed investigation has been initiated. “The exact cause and circumstances behind the incident will be ascertained after a thorough probe,” she added.
Police have begun efforts to identify and trace the assailants, while further investigation is underway.
