Soro: Four mask-wearing bike-borne miscreants allegedly fired shots at two employees of a petrol pump before looting Rs 12 lakh from them in broad daylight in front of the Indian Bank at Bartana on Kupari-Agarpada road under Khaira police limits in Balasore district, on Tuesday.
One of the employees of the petrol pump, Bishnu Mahapatra who has received a bullet wound on his leg has been admitted to the Community Health Centre at Khaira. His condition is stated to be critical.
“We had come to deposit Rs 12 lakh cash in the bank at Bartana. When I was just entering the bank four miscreants pulled me outside and snatched away the bag containing the cash. One of the miscreants fired towards my chest but as I turned the bullet hit me on my leg,” said Bishnu Mahapatra, an employee of the petrol pump who is undergoing treatment at Community Health Centre, Khaira for his injury.
The miscreants fled the spot in two motorcycles after committing the robbery.
The manager of the petrol pump Ajay Mahapatra had accompanied Bishnu to the bank to deposit the cash.
Khaira police have launched an investigation into the incident.
