Malkangiri: People of as many as 18 villages have been marooned following a massive landslide in Bayapada ghat in Nakamamudi panchayat under Korukonda block in Malkangiri district on Saturday triggered by incessant rains.

While the villages remain cut off and vehicular traffic has been disrupted, locals have constructed a makeshift wooden bridge and are using it to cross to the other side risking their lives.

Meanwhile, the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) has discussed the matter with the Malkangiri Collector. The SRC has informed that road clearance work is underway and traffic shall be restored shortly.

The SRC has also instructed the Engineer-in-Chief of the Department of Water Resources to keep close watch on rivers and dams due to rain.
