Baripada: In a shocking incident that has shaken Bharandia village, a man allegedly killed his elder son with an axe following a heated argument, and subsequently turned himself in to the police on Thursday.
The accused, identified as Anam Baunshia, a resident of Bharandia village under the Thakurmunda police station limits, has been arrested after confessing to the murder of his son, Tapan Baunshia.
According to police sources, the tragedy unfolded late in the evening when Tapan returned home in an inebriated state. An altercation ensued after the son reportedly verbally abused and physically assaulted his father, who was cooking at the time.
Provoked and enraged, Anam allegedly seized an axe and attacked Tapan, inflicting fatal injuries. After the attack, in a consequential turn of events, Anam proceeded directly to the Thakurmunda police station and surrendered, narrating the sequence of events.
“The accused has surrendered and confessed to the crime. We have registered a murder case under relevant sections of the BNS. The body has been sent for post-mortem, and a detailed investigation is underway to ascertain the complete circumstances,” stated a senior police official from Thakurmunda police station.
The incident has sent waves of disbelief and horror through the small village, highlighting a devastating breakdown in familial relations. While the immediate trigger appears to be a drunken confrontation, police are investigating the history of the father-son relationship and other potential contributing factors.
