Baripada: A Special Fast Track Court in Mayurbhanj district on Saturday sentenced 25-year-old Kiran Kumar Si to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) for raping a 14-year-old girl last year.
The court also imposed a fine of ₹10,000 and directed the District Legal Services Authority to provide ₹4 lakh compensation to the survivor.
The conviction was based on the victim’s testimony, statements from 10 witnesses, and a medical report. The horrific incident occurred on April 9, 2024, during Ma Sitala Puja celebrations in Morada.
According to the case details, the survivor had stepped out of an opera performance to relieve herself when the accused forcibly took her to a nearby canal, raped her, and threatened to kill her if she revealed the crime.
The matter came to light only after the girl became pregnant, prompting her family to file an FIR at Morada Police Station. Police subsequently arrested the accused.
