Bhubaneswar: A woman allegedly died by suicide at her residence in Mayurbhanj district on Sunday, reportedly unable to cope with the death of her boyfriend, who had succumbed to a snakebite while undergoing treatment four days earlier.
The deceased, identified as Devi Singh, was found hanging in the backyard of her house at Dimagadia village under the jurisdiction of Udala police station. Family members discovered her hanging from a rope and immediately rushed her to the Udala Sub-Divisional Hospital, where doctors declared her dead.
According to reports, Devi had been in a relationship with Pintu for several years. Pintu was working in the Nalconagar area of Angul district when he was bitten by a venomous snake while on duty a few days ago. He was admitted to a hospital but succumbed to his injuries during treatment.
Family members alleged that Devi was devastated after learning of Pintu’s death and had been in deep distress ever since. Unable to come to terms with the loss, she allegedly took the extreme step on Sunday.
Upon receiving information, police reached the spot, recovered the body, and sent it for post-mortem examination.
A case has been registered, and further investigation is underway to ascertain the circumstances leading to the woman’s death.
