Bhubaneswar: In a major healthcare outreach under the Mukhyamantri Bayu Swasthya Seva Yojana (MBSSY), 1,398 critically ill patients from remote and tribal areas of Malkangiri district received free specialist and superspecialist treatment during a four-day medical camp at the District Headquarters Hospital between August 18 and 21.
The camp witnessed participation of top consultants and superspecialists from Sriram Chandra Bhanja Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack, and PGIMER Capital Hospital, Bhubaneswar. Patients were treated across key disciplines including cardiology (260), neurology (415), gastroenterology (263), endocrinology (229), nephrology (231), and laparoscopic surgery (6). In addition, 130 ECGs and 59 endoscopies were conducted.
The team of doctors included Dr. Kaibalya Ranjan Dash (Gastroenterology), Dr. Aujjwalya Kumar Jena (Neurology), Dr. Aruna Acharya (Nephrology), Dr. Ranjan Kumar Mohanty (Cardiology), Dr. Bijay Kumar Sahoo (Endocrinology), Dr. Jyotirmaya Nayak (Surgery), and Dr. Raj Mahapatra (Anaesthesia). They were assisted by senior specialists Dr. Dhirej Kumar Lenka (Nephrology), Dr. Sanghamitra Sahoo (Neurology), Dr. Sitakanta Panda (Endocrinology), and Dr. Avansh Taunk (Cardiology).
To facilitate the camp, an ICU equipped with modern machinery and diagnostic facilities was set up at the hospital. An advance team of doctors reached Malkangiri a day earlier to record case histories and prepare patients for clinical interventions.
The initiative drew wide appreciation from local residents. Many patients, after discharge, expressed gratitude, noting that access to such high-level healthcare in a remote district surrounded by forests and hills had seemed unimaginable until now. They credited the state government for bringing specialized medical services to their doorstep under the leadership of Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi.
