Mercury Crosses 40°C In Bolangir, Sambalpur Amid Rising Heat In Odisha

Bhubaneswar: Hot and humid weather conditions continued to prevail across Odisha on Thursday, with Bolangir emerging as the hottest place in the state at 40.3 degrees Celsius, according to the evening weather bulletin issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

Sambalpur closely followed with 40.2 degrees Celsius, while Jharsuguda recorded 39.6 degrees Celsius. Titlagarh and Nuapada also witnessed intense heat, registering 39.5 degrees Celsius each. Bhawanipatna recorded 39.3 degrees Celsius, while Baripada touched 39 degrees Celsius.

Among the major urban centres, Bhubaneswar recorded 37.3 degrees Celsius and Cuttack registered 35.8 degrees Celsius. Chandbali reported 37.7 degrees Celsius, while Balasore and Paralakhemundi recorded 37.6 degrees Celsius each.

The minimum temperature in the state ranged between 19.5 degrees Celsius in Dhenkanal and 27.8 degrees Celsius in Nayagarh.

Humidity levels remained high in several districts, adding to the discomfort among residents. Paralakhemundi recorded 86 per cent relative humidity at 1730 hours, while Jagatsinghpur reported 85 per cent and Puri 79 per cent.

The weather bulletin indicated light rainfall activity in isolated pockets of the state during the past 24 hours. Jagatsinghpur recorded the highest rainfall of 25.1 mm, followed by Sundargarh at 24.4 mm and Dhenkanal at 22 mm. Bhubaneswar received 13.7 mm rainfall during the period.

The IMD has advised people to take precautions against heat stress, particularly during peak afternoon hours, as high daytime temperatures continue to affect several parts of Odisha.
