Mid-Day Meal Scare: Toddler Dies After Falling Into Pot Of Boiling Dal

Bhubaneswar: In an unfortunate incident, a five-year-old girl who was undergoing treatment at SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack after falling into the vessel of boiling dal, succumbed to her burns on Tuesday.

According to sources, the deceased child’s mother Namita Mallick, a resident of Mohana in Gajapati district, is a cook. Namita had taken her five-year-old daughter to Damadua Government Girls’ Ashram School on April 16. While Namita was busy cooking, the toddler fell into the boiling dal vessel as it was brought out from the kitchen for the midday meal. She accidentally fell into the large vessel while playing.

She was immediately rushed to Mohana Hospital in Gajapati district. As her condition worsened, she was shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital. After battling for her life for eight days, she succumbed to her injuries on Tuesday.
