Bhawanipatna: A pall of gloom descended on Jubang village under Gunupur police limits of Kalahandi district on Monday morning after the body of a migrant labourer, who died in a wall collapse incident in Kerala, arrived home.
The deceased, identified as Uday Majhi of Jubang village under Thuamul Rampur block, was working with a contractor agency in Kakkodi under Kozhikode district’s Elathur police station area.
According to reports, on November 1, while Majhi was engaged in construction work, a house wall suddenly collapsed, trapping him under a concrete slab. The slab reportedly fell on his head, leaving him critically injured. Though the police and local authorities rescued him and rushed him to a nearby hospital, doctors declared him dead upon arrival.
The body reached his native village around 9:30 AM on Monday, where grief-stricken family members and villagers mourned his untimely death. The body was later taken to the village cremation ground for the final rites.
