Balasore: The family of a 45-year-old migrant worker, who died under mysterious circumstances in Kerala, has made an emotional appeal to the district administration to help bring his body back home.

Jagabandhu Barik, a resident of Oranda village under Khaira block in Balasore district, was working at a plywood company in Kerala for the past eight years. He was the sole breadwinner of his family, which includes his aged mother, wife, two daughters, and a son.

According to reports, Jagabandhu’s body was found hanging from a tree near Palakkad railway station in Kerala last Friday. Local police in Kerala informed his family about his death, but the cause of death remains unclear. The family is finding it difficult to bear the expenses of bringing his body back home.

Finding no other go, the family has appealed to the local MLA, District Collector, and labour officer to intervene and help them bring Jagabandhu’s body back to Odisha for the last rites. The villagers have also joined hands with the family to seek help from the administration.

Kamalarani Barik, the wife of the deceased, expressed her family’s distress, saying, “My husband was the sole breadwinner of our family. We were devastated to learn about his death on Friday. Now, we’re struggling to bring his body back from Kerala due to financial constraints. I humbly request the administration to provide us with the necessary assistance to bring his body home and support us financially so that we can perform his last rites with dignity.”
