Kataka: A 13-year-old boy drowned in the Kathajodi River near Dhaurang area under Kataka Sadar police station limits in Kataka district on Sunday afternoon.
The deceased was identified as Aryan Saha, a resident of Srikoruan village. He was a Class VIII student of Gopalpur Maa Tarini Vidyapith School and the only son of his parents.
According to reports, Aryan, along with two of his friends, had gone to the Kathajodi River to take a bath at around 1 pm. While the trio entered the river, they were swept away by the strong current due to the high water level.
A local youth from Bhoi Sahi area of Srikoruan village, who witnessed the incident, immediately rushed to their rescue and managed to save two of the boys. However, Aryan could not be rescued in time and drowned in the river.
Family members later rushed him to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Kataka, where doctors declared him dead.
On receiving information, personnel from Kataka Sadar police station reached the spot, took custody of the body, and started an investigation into the incident.
The tragic incident has cast a pall of gloom over Srikoruan village, with family members and locals mourning the untimely death of the young boy.
