Bhubaneswar: A 14-year-old boy was electrocuted after lightning struck his home in Darengba village while he was listening to music on earphones with his mobile phone charging, late on Wednesday night.
The deceased has been identified as Rati Sisa, son of Jagannath Sisa, a resident of Darengba village under Kasandi panchayat in Nandapur block.
Parts of Nandapur block have been witnessing heavy rain and thunderstorms since Wednesday. According to family members, Rati was using earphones to listen to music as his mobile phone was plugged in for charging when lightning struck the area.
Following the strike, power supply in the house was cut off. Hearing his cry, family members rushed inside and found him unconscious. He was rushed to the Nandapur Community Health Centre in a 108 ambulance, where doctors declared him dead on examination.
Officials have urged people to avoid using mobile phones, especially while charging, and to unplug electrical devices during thunderstorms as a precautionary measure.
