Nayagarh: In a suspected case of honour killing, a 17-year-old girl was beaten to death allegedly by her father and other relatives for having a love affair with her relative at Sorada village under Nuagaan police station in Nayagarh district.
Police arrested three relatives of the deceased while her father is absconding. The arrested accused are Bikash Kumar Nayak (32), Chinmaya Nayak (26) and Patitapaban Pradhan (68).
According to police, Bipra Nayak’s minor daughter was in a love with relative’s son. Despite repeated warnings, the girl didn’t refrain from her affair.
On November 10, her father Bipra and other relatives beat her to death. In a bid to cover up the matter, they took the body in a car to Jankakorada forest in Phiringia of Phulbani district and buried it, Additional SP Subash Panda said.
“Based on reliable information, a police team investigated the matter. On the report of sub-inspector Purusottam Pradhan, a case has been registered at Nuagaan police station. Two cousins of the girl were arrested. Her father is absconding,” Panda said.
The body was exhumed in the presence of an executive magistrate and sent for post-mortem. The reports are awaited, he added.
Preliminary investigation suggested that she was beaten to death. The matter will be clear after the post-mortem report comes, Panda said.
