Jajpur: In a tragic incident, an 8 year-old girl lost her life, while her father was critically injured after a segment of Rengali canal embankment caved in at Kalinga Nagar in Odisha’s Jajpur district on Friday morning.
The deceased was identified as Gita Munda (8), daughter of Ishwar Munda of Baunsanali village under Kalinga Nagar police limits. By the time the minor girl was dead by the time her body was rescued from the canal.
According to reports, the father-daughter duo had gone to relieve themselves beside the canal today morning when a mudslide eroded a portion of the embankment. Both the father and daughter were buried under mud after the mudslide.
On being informed, Fire Services and police personnel rushed to the spot and commenced rescue operations. Gita was rushed to the Dangadi Community Health Center (CHC) where the doctors declared her ‘brought dead’. Ishwar rushed to the government hospital at Sukinda in a critical condition.
A company named ‘Right Triangle’ was working at the site when the mishap occurred. Locals alleged that poor quality construction work at the embankment resulted in the accident.
