Bhubaneswar: A minor girl was allegedly raped while on her way to school in the Jamankira police station area of Sambalpur district on Saturday.
Police detained the accused, identified as Ameer Qureshi, a resident of the same locality, following a complaint filed by the victim’s family.
According to reports, the accused intercepted the girl en route to school, lured her with inducements, and persuaded her to accompany him. He then allegedly drove her to an isolated location in the neighboring Deogarh district, where he committed the crime.
After the assault, he reportedly dropped the girl near her home before fleeing. The victim shared her ordeal with her family, who promptly lodged a complaint with the Jamankira police. Acting on the complaint, the police registered a case, launched an investigation, and detained the accused.
The car used in the crime has also been seized.
