Berhampur: Miscreants allegedly hurled crude bombs at a police team in Srikshetra Vihar area under Bada Bazar police limits of the city today.
While no policeman has been injured in the incident, the police have detained five persons in this connection.
Speaking to reporters, Berhampur SP Saravana Vivek M said that a case was registered at Bada Bazaar police station over a complaint today morning that crude bombs were hurled at a house late on Tuesday night.
The SP said that a case was registered under Explosives Act on the basis of the complaint of the complainant.
Crude bombs were reportedly hurled at a person’s house in Laxmi Nrusingha Sahi under Bada Bazar police limits.
The SP said that a police team of Bada Bazaar police station led by Sub Inspector Ranjit Das went to nab the accused persons in Srikshetra Vihar area.
The accused persons hurled bombs at the police team, the SP added.
“Then IIC Bada Bazaar and SDPO Town formed a big team to apprehend the accused persons. Till now we have detained three men and two women. They are being questioned,” the SP stated.
Police have seized a few crude bombs and bomb-making materials from the premises of the accused persons, he added.
Meanwhile, a member of the Bomb Disposal Squad of police has been critically injured while defusing the seized crude bombs. He has been identified as Ashok Pradhan and has been rushed to MKCG Medical College & Hospital here.
