Bhubaneswar: The body of a 22-year-old man from Balangir district, who had gone missing after texting his mother a desperate message vowing to end his life by jumping into the Burla Power Canal because he couldn’t bear watching her writhe in pain while battling cancer, was recovered from power canal near the Chipilima Hydro Electric Project.
According to reports, Saurav Sambit Tripathy, a resident of Mahalakhmi Nagar in Balangir, had gone missing from Burla Bhimsen area after sending the poignant message — “Mom, I can’t bear to see you suffer… I’ll end my life by jumping into the Burla canal”—to his hospitalized mother on the evening of October 22.
Saurav’s mother was suffering from cancer and was undergoing treatment at Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences And Research (VIMSAR).
As her condition worsened, Saurav was taking care of her at the hospital. Unable to bear the pain of seeing his mother suffer, Saurav sent a heart-wrenching message to his mother on October 22, saying he would jump into the Burla canal and end his life. After that, he went missing. Despite searching for him in various places, his family couldn’t find him and finally lodged a missing complaint at the Burla police station.
Based on Saurav’s message, the police and fire brigade searched the power canal and surrounding areas and recovered his body from the canal near Chiplima Power House.
