Bhubaneswar: A Class 10 student from Dhenkanal district, who had been missing for 17 days, was safely rescued on Sunday from Salipur in Cuttack.
The missing student, Sumit Kumar Mahapatra, is a student of Adarsha Vidyalaya, Ankarantipur.
According to police, Sumit disappeared from his hostel in Ankarantipur on October 24, 2025, reportedly due to mental distress. He then travelled to Cuttack in a private vehicle and took shelter at a local resident’s house in Salipur.
Sumit’s parents became aware of his situation through social media updates and phone calls from the host family. They contacted the police, who acted on the information and located him safely.
“With the help of the media and police cooperation, we got our child back. I express my gratitude to everyone,” said Lulu Mahapatra, Sumit’s father.
Dhenkanal Sadar Police Station IIC Priyabrata Das said, “We received information from a reliable source that the child was in Salipur. A police team from Dhenkanal was dispatched and with assistance from local police, the child was rescued safely.”
Sumit has been reunited with his family and is reported to be in stable condition.
