Jagatsinghpur: A young woman was found dead under suspicious circumstances in Kathiapada village under Jagatsinghpur Sadar police limits, with her family alleging murder, police said on Tuesday.
The deceased has been identified as Sasmita Das, daughter of Pramod Das. According to family members, she had gone missing shortly after her engagement ceremony held three days ago and had not returned home since.
Despite extensive searches by the family and locals, her whereabouts remained unknown until Tuesday evening, when some villagers working in nearby fields spotted a body lying in the area and alerted authorities.
The family members rushed to the spot and identified the body as that of Sasmita Das.
Police from the Jagatsinghpur Sadar police station reached the scene, recovered the body, and sent it for post-mortem examination. A case has been registered based on a complaint filed by the family, who have alleged that the young woman was murdered.
Officials said an investigation has been initiated to ascertain the exact cause of death and identify those responsible.
