Bhubaneswar: The Southwest Monsoon has made significant progress, covering the entire Andaman and Nicobar Islands including Port Blair, and has reached parts of the eastern Bay of Bengal.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the monsoon is likely to advance further in the coming week into the Arabian Sea, the remaining parts of the Bay of Bengal, portions of the northeastern states, and the extreme southern peninsula.
IMD Director General Dr. Mrutyunjay Mohapatra informed that the official monsoon season will run from June 1 to September 30. The withdrawal of the monsoon is expected to begin around September 17. He reassured that there is no need to worry as the monsoon is arriving on time.
Dr. Mohapatra further stated that the recent rainfall has brought much-needed relief from the prevailing heatwave conditions. Due to rainfall since yesterday, heatwave conditions have significantly reduced in many areas.
He added that rainfall is likely to continue till May 31 across Northwest India, Central India, and Eastern India.
